Bought some great shoes in Peshawar. Got to see one huge sand storm. Saw many chameleons in the evenings while playing cards on the patio between the dorms. Remember our flight emblem was the Anheiser Busch sign. I went on to spend 24 years in USAFSS/ESC retiring in 1984. Enjoyed every one of them. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bought a bicycle and rode it into town several times with out a problem and would stop at Dean's Hotel for an orange squash. Couldn't do that now. Was there when JFK was shot and there was a lot of confusion. It was Friday night and we were all sh** faced drinking San Miguel beer. A few unloaded M1 carbines were passed out and we waited to see what would happen. As an Army guy I always tell the story about the air base I was on that only had one plane and they managed to get it shot down. Not many young folks even remember Gary Powers!
We all did our duty and It did pay off in the end. Now we are all old farts, I just signed up for S.S. Where oh where did our youth go?

Remember how everyone got happier as they got "shorter". The boredom was the worst thing about the tour. You really had to invent ways to fight it. Booze helped, as did exploring the Khyber Pass and the local areas. I remember getting the "re-up" interview towards the end of my tour, and thinking they must be nuts to think I'd ever re-up now !!! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NCO Club coffee tasted like coffee pot cleaner and the waiters left a wake of odor when passing. I remember a flight party at the club in '67 where everyone got so loaded they couldn't hold on to their drinks and glasses where breaking on the floor toward the end of the evening. Anyone remember dancing with Lt. Beveridge's wife? She did wonders for white go-go boots - especialy in Peshawar. I think I previously posted here about Hap Richards and I getting arrested by Pak Border Police while returing from Kohat. Gary has the story with photos and I placed a post on our other site link here. Sign of our stress level was the night a stray dog was barking outside our barracks and a frustrated troop walked up to a Pak guard on duty and says "nice rife sob, can I hold it?" There was a loud shot and a dead dog! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I had three sisters, Veronica "Roni", Natalie "Dede" and Tracy. My older brothers were Michael and Tom. I was young when I was there. However, I have some lasting memories.
I recall the men playing softball. I can recall my Dad taking me into the bazaar and having the locals come up to touch my white blonde hair. I recall Santa Claus arriving on a camel. Most of all, I remember climbing the Kaiber Pass.
I am proud that my father served at Peshawar. Thank you for preserving his memory through this web site.

Comments: I was delighted to find your site. I was at PAS as an Air Force Brat. Your website brought back so many wonderful memories for me. I used to deliver all of the movie schedules via bicycle, so it was a thrill to see one saved. I remember waiting at the mail box each day for The Mystic Lamp. I will look through my memorabilia and if there is anything you would be interested in, I will be happy to scan and send it to you. My father was Tsgt. Fred S. Davis, he worked in mechanical/civil engineering. My mother worked in the beauty shop. For a long time she was the only beautician on base. If you are interested I can tell you my experiences through a brat's eyes as we blackened our windows, dug a bomb shelter, and evacuated to Turkey via a bus with failing headlights through Khyber Pass in the middle of the night. Remembering powdered eggs, the "mechanical cow", and always swimming in the pool. I did join the Air Force Reserve Nurse Corp. and served at Patrick Air Force Base for 8 years. I saw your reunion will be in Orlando this year. Is it only open to those who were active during the era of PAS? Thank you for the memories. Sincerely, Sheree --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Never would have seen anything like it on my own. It did set me up for a career as a computer tech though. Lots of poker, beer, and tonga rides to the city as I recall. I can remember the softball, the pool, lots of 3-2 beer, the cookouts, and most of all, the black market and how we got some real "buys" in Peshawar. There wasn't much to do except when it was permitted to go off base which wasn't that often because the natives were restless at times.
